A washing machine is one of the most widely used appliances in German households. She often does her work every day, even several times a day in larger families. Due to this intensive use, a lot of dirt accumulates in all corners and pipes of the machine and bacteria also multiply quickly due to the moisture.
In this post, we will show you some little tips and tricks on how to use your washing machine properly, how to keep it clean and free of mould and how to carry out light repairs yourself. You will no longer have any problems with your machine.
OPERATE YOUR MACHINE CORRECTLY
- Slingshot: Choose a slingshot gear that is suitable for the load. This is because if the calling is set too high for the load, it creates strong vibrations that can damage the machine.
- Overload: Even if at first glance it seems ecologically sensible to fully load the machine, caution is required here. Large items should not exceed half of your cargo. Duvets and blankets should be washed individually. Items in the machine should therefore not be packed thickly.
- Quantity of detergent: Be sure to recommend the amount of detergent in the user manual of your machine or on the detergent packaging itself. Because too much detergent means not only more soap but rinsing. It can overflow your washing machine and damage the electronics.
6 WAYS TO KEEP YOUR MACHINE CLEAN, FRESH AND FREE OF MOULD
1-Care for sufficient ventilation after use: Many machines today have vent locks. With these, you can keep the door of your washing machine open a few centimetres without children or dogs crawling in. Alternatively, you can simply open the door completely to promote ventilation.
2-Useless product: Adjust the amount of detergent to the load in the machine. For example, a front-loader washing machine requires significantly less detergent compared to a top loader.
3-Remove freshly washed laundry early: After washing, the clothing should be removed quickly. Because there is no ventilation system that prevents the formation of fashion and mould.
4-Clean the door seal regularly: A well-functioning door seal is extremely important as it prevents even the smallest amounts of water from escaping. But such a door seal also stores a lot of moisture. Therefore, you should wipe the seal after each wash with a large rag or towel, preferably with some soap or even mould cleaner. With a separate cloth, you can then wipe it dry.
5-Clean drawer dispenser: You should clean the dispenser compartment regularly with warm water and a cloth. Do not use detergents here, only water. We also do not recommend cleaning in the dishwasher, as the heat can damage the plastic drawer.
6-Let a cleaning solution go through: First, carry out a wash without clothes and cleaning agents. This is followed by another wash with a special washing machine cleaner. You can get this in every well-stocked supermarket. After the cleaning solution has passed, you can wipe the machine again with a large, absorbent towel to really remove all moisture and thus moulds.
TROUBLESHOOTING
Problem 1: The machine does not run or the door cannot be opened
Solution: If not all the water in the machine is emptied, the door does not open. Then manually use the “Pump/Sling” setting. If this does not help, it could be because of a clogged drain filter. Thus, the water inlet filter located at the back of the machine could no longer be permeable. To do this, remove the filter and soften it in lime remover or use white vinegar. Then rinse the filter and reinsert it. The machine should then work.
Issue 2: The device does not turn on
Solution: Search for a possibly triggered electrical circuit breaker. This is often the solution to this problem. Washing machines must be regularly serviced and cleaned to function properly.
We hope that this post will help you and that you will no longer have any problems with your washing machine.
