The Heads of Churches & Christian Organisations
Dear Ecumenical Leaders,
This is to inform you that the National Council of Churches in India will observe the “The Week of Prayer for Christian Unity” from 18-25 January 2012. We invite you to participate in the same.
We are living in times when Unity among churches is very important. Christian Unity is necessary for witness to the gospel. Christian Unity is also essential for addressing challenges which churches encounter in pluralistic society. Christian Unity facilitates fellowship, empowerment and joy of all disciples of Jesus Christ.
Therefore, I urge to come together for prayer as we celebrate the Week for Christian Unity. Remember the prayer of Jesus in John 17:21 that “they may all be one”.
Kindly find enclosed a booklet which contains reflections on the Unity Octave. Also note that during the Unity Octave, we celebrate NCCI Sunday on 22nd January 2012. We earnestly request you to pray for the NCCI during your worship service on that day. We also request you to send either the offering of that service or a special contribution to the NCCI. Kindly also send a report of the observance so that we can share it with others.
The NCCI will be having its national quadrennial assembly during April 25-29, 2012. The theme for the Assembly is: “The gospel in a groaning world” (cf. Romans 8:22-23).
Thanking you for your solidarity with us. Sincerely Yours,
Roger Gaikwad General Secretary
