NCCI condemns objectionable depiction of Jesus; demands action and enquiry
The National Council of Churches in India (NCCI), representing the main-line protestant and orthodox churches in India, condemns the act of the Skyline Publishers to depict Jesus with a cigarette and a beer can in one of their publications meant for education of children. This is both objectionable and hurts the sentiments of the Christians in the country.
The NCCI in a letter written by its Vice-President Rev. Dr. PBM Basaiawmoit to the Publisher demanded that the publication be withdrawn from all over the country, and that the Publishers offer an unconditional apology through all channels of communication media.
The NCCI also demands that the Human Resource Development Ministry and the Ministry for Minority Affairs of the Government of India take suitable action on the publishers including recommending withdrawing the license of the Publishing house or such other measures, while initiating an enquiry into the background to the mischievous publication and distribution of “Enjoying cursive writing Part I”
