Posted bySolomon Rongpi

National Council of Churches in India (NCCI) Commissions on Unity, Mission & Evangelism and the Council of Baptist Churches in North East India (CBCNEI)

Organize a National Study Conference on
“Integral Mission: Rethinking Mission Today”

Venue:CBCNEI Centre, Pan Bazar, Guwahati
Date: 21-24 June, 2011

Rationale:
The National Council of Churches in India celebrates its centenary in 2014 which is five years from now.  The Centenary Celebration has been launched during the National Ecumenical Youth Assembly held at Kolkata from the 6-10 January 2010.  It is appropriate and proper that this Mission Conference will be part of the centenary celebration. During this conference we will revisit the ministry of NCCI for the last 95 years of its existence looking at its failures and successes as ecumenical body. We will also look at our mission practices in the local churches are integral in nature.

Integral mission or holistic transformation is the proclamation and demonstration of the gospel. It is not simply that evangelism and social involvement are to be done alongside each other. Rather, in integral mission our proclamation has social consequences as we call people to love and repentance in all aspects of life. And our social involvement has evangelistic consequences as we bear witness to the transforming grace of Jesus Christ. If we ignore the world we betray the word of God which sends us out to serve the world. If we ignore the word of God we have nothing to bring to the world. Justice and justification by faith, worship and political action, the spiritual and the material, personal change and structural change belong together. As in the life of Jesus, being, doing and saying are at the heart of our integral task.

Aim:
In the context of 2014 centenary celebration of the NCCI, this conference is being organized to have fellowship with different mission organization and member churches, spend time together for rethinking mission practices and see its implications for local churches beyond the Centenary Celebration in 2014. The ministry of NCCI will be relooked and the issues faced by the churches in India will be presented and discussed in this conference with regards to integral mission. It will be for fellowship, encouragements and help to evolve new mission programs for the churches in India in context of growing religious fundamentalism, market competition, consumerism, and continuing marginalization and exclusion of the marginalized sections of the society.

Objectives:
• To analyze the ministry of churches under NCCI and its contributions to missions in India.
• To evolve new mission practices integral in nature in local congregation.
• To empower local congregation to engage wholistic mission in a pluralist society.
• To strategize new collaborative mission endeavor among various mission agencies and churches.

Expected Outcome:
• Evolve a proposal on collaborative mission practice at local congregation.
• Evolve a proposal on liberative /transformational or integral mission practices for local churches.
• Encourage to have a well designed mission strategy, (culturally, biblically and contextually relevant) for various mission agencies and churches.
