| Revisiting WCC Assembly 1961, New Delhi: Rethinking Mission in India

In the context of 2010 50th Anniversary of WCC Assembly 1961celebration of the Third World Council of Churches Assembly and the Integration of International Missionary Conference to WCC, this conference is being organized to have fellowship with different mission organization and churches, spend time together to rethink mission practices and see its implications for local churches by revisiting WCC Assembly 1961. The outcome of the Assembly will be relooked and the issues raised at the Assembly will be discussed in this consultation from the Indian perspectives. It will be for fellowship, encouragements and help to evolve new mission programs for the churches in India in context of growing religious fundamentalism, market competition, consumerism, and continuing marginalization and exclusion of the marginalized sections of the society. The churches will be guided properly to understand the meaning of doing mission in our time today.
The objectives will be to critically analyze the mission practices and the understandings of Mission and Evangelism, to relook at the understanding of other religions in the light of Christ, to analyze how far the churches in India demonstrate the visible unity of the church as expected, to evolve new mission practices and to empower local congregation to engage wholistic/integral mission, to strategize new collaborative mission endeavor among various mission agencies and churches of different traditions.
The Malankara Orthodox Church and the NCCI together plans to organize the consultation on “Revisiting WCC Assembly 1961, New Delhi: Rethinking Mission in India Today”. This important consultation will be held at YMCA Kochi from 24 – 26 March 2011. Your participant should plan to arrive Kochi either on 23rd evening or 24th morning as the session begins from 2:30 pm on 24th March 2011. Food and Lodging will be provided by the organizers. In order to manage the limited financial resources, we request you to provide one-way train 3rd or 2nd AC fare including incidentals to your participant. The other way will be taken care of by the organizers.
